BAD COMPANY, TODAY I DIE [atrb=border,3,true][atrb=bordercolor,873d32,true][bg=c04536][atrb=width,435,true][atrb=height, 340,true][atrb=cellpadding,10,true][atrb=cellspacing,0,true]
Work. Wasn't it a lovely thing? Brooke found herself losing focus rather fast against her opponent. There weren't many people who bothered to challenge her anymore, simply because her track record was near perfect. This kid though, had claimed to be a challenge... and so far Brooke was waiting to see it. With a sigh of frustration, she fiddled with the jewelery on her wrist: just a simple bracelet, nothing special... but she was bored.
"Star, no more holding back. Just finish off the Dragonair with an Ice Fang!" she called. The Mightyena responded with a howl of determination, and suddenly stopped its dodging spree, snarling up at the coiling dragon. He would wait for it to come to his level, because that was just the easiest way to win. Of course, it always took a few moments, but Star was willing to be patient.
"Dragonair, use Outrage!"
Fuck, now this kid decides to be strong? Brooke thought bitterly, tensing up as the dragon type gathered power. She had to think quickly. Outrage was an extremely powerful attack, so powerful that it left the user disoriented eventually. She'd have to exploit its weakness that way, "Star, don't let Dragonair touch you! Forget about the Ice Fang!"
Star let out a surprised bark, but then barely moved out of the way of the attack, which left a small crater in the battlefield. Brooke blinked in shock; that Dragonair certainly did have a lot of strength hidden underneath its exterior. Brooke would have to play her game out carefully. "Star, hang tough! Counter the attack with your Iron Tail!"
It wasn't a perfect strategy, but hopefully that old saying "the best offense is a good defense" could be turned around. Brooke could only wait and see. The two Pokemon engaged moments later, Star countering the blast of pure rage-filled power with a glowing tail. A loud BANG sounded as the two attacks connected, followed by another, and another. It took all Brooke had to keep her focus on what was going on, when all she really wanted to do was cover her ears and close her eyes.
At last the onslaught stopped, and the two fighters landed opposite each other, panting. Star was holding up one paw, and seemed to be pretty worn down. Brooke's eyes widened. Should she call off the battle? Star stared back at her, giving her a determined nod. He wanted to finish out the fight? Brooke was concerned, but she nodded back, looking over at the now confused Dragonair. Just one good hit, and this battle was theirs: "This is your chance Star! Use Ice Fang, full throttle!"
The command went through without much difficulty. The dragon type was much too disoriented to dodge properly, and with one good bite to its long body, it seemed to freeze into a block of ice before fainting. The battle was won... cheers erupted. This wasn't unusual. Brooke just sighed, walking up to Star, her faithful companion, and picking him up in her arms as the masses of viewers shouted her name. Didn't they see that she wasn't in the mood for this right now? She liked battling, she was good at it too... but the aftermath was always, always horrible.
"Let's get you looked at," she whispered in his ear before heading off the battlefield to the back rooms. Once there, she set her Pokemon down, and then carefully examined the leg he refused to put weight on. "What did that Dragonair do to you Star? Your... paw...."
Star let out a little whimper, and that was almost enough to make Brooke's heart tear in half. How could she have been so dumb, to send her Pokemon headfirst into an Outrage attack? Opening up her tote bag, Brooke pulled out some minor first aid equipment, and proceeded to wrap Star's paw in a bandage. "Maybe we should find a different job..." she whispered. Though in her mind, she knew that this was probably the only thing she was good at. And she had to bring in money somehow since her mother was successfully disabled from her own days of fighting. She sighed when she finished, holding a hand to her head. What was she going to do?

Though there were less and less fights nowadays, the quality of the fight only increased, as those above the rest clearly rising above and shining. One in specifc, a Brooke Sangloup. Suens had taken a liking to her actually. He believed firmly that she could help him to train his damn lazy Skarmory. The fights intrigued him, inspried him, gave him a wave of feelings, taking his emotions on a rollercoaster ride and he dreamt of the day he would participate in a battle.
Leaning forward on his seat as the battle reached its climate, Suens errupted along with everyone else watching as Brooke's Mightyena defeated the Dragonair. It was an enjoyable battle and Suens had actually learnt quite a bit from it. As he clapped along with everyone else, he was surpised at the amount of fans Brooke had and he had to admit, he was also one. As the people seemed to leave, Suens noticed that Brooke was wrapping a bandage over Star's paw. Wait what had happened?
Curious and concerned, Suens made his way over to her. Didn't anyone else care that the victor was injured? Making his way over, Suens remembered the first time he had met her. He hadn't actually heard of her but the name did seem familiar. He had never actually seen a live fight and the only time he had been in the Battle Zone was when repairs were needed. He met Brooke in the Poke Park when she had clashed into that girl Olympia or was it the other way around? He couldn't remember exactly. He had made a mental note to watch one of her fights live once he realized who she actually was and so that's why he was here.
"Is he alright?" He asked in a concerned tone, squatting near Star to stroke his fur. Star was a great fighter, Suens wondered how it had managed to do it for so many years. "That was a great battle, I never knew you were so talented" Suens added, turning his head to face Brooke.

Brooke finished her job wrapping Star's paw carefully, not noticing Sueno's approach. Had she been paying more attention, perhaps she wouldn't have been so surprised to hear a voice suddenly ring out, but she was too wrapped up in concern over her Pokemon to do so. Tensing up when the boy behind her made himself known, she whipped her head around, eyes blazing as if she was ready to lash out. But then her mind caught up to her, and slowly, she relaxed, letting out a sigh and averting her gaze.
"I'm not exactly sure what happened. I think Star here might have landed on it badly. Some good rest should do the trick..." she trailed off, whispering a final "I hope" that was nearly inaudible. However, the moment of insecurity was short lived, almost as if it had never been there at all. She met Sueno's gaze, trying hard to remember his name and where they'd met previously.
"That was a great battle, I never knew you were so talented," he commented. Brooke smirked a little bit in response, tempted to spit out a sarcastic "well, it is my job." Instead though, she nodded, simply thanking him before turning her attention back to her Pokemon.
"But it's him that does all the work. I may have a knack for strategy, but Star's the one that takes the heed. I feel kind of bad about it. He never complains... but I know he doesn't particularly enjoy fighting. Sometimes I wonder if this job is worth our time," she admitted, letting out another sigh. Her Mightyena snarled at her soon after though, as if to tell her that he didn't care. Brooke of course, knew why he was doing this... why they were doing it.
Ma's still sick, she remembered. We need to raise the money to get her well. Star agreed to do this job with me. To fight... fighting is my only strength. And it was true. She had all the makings of a strong soldier really. Her mother was much the same as Brooke in that way, continuing to punch life in the face when she clearly was not well enough to be doing so.
Brooke nodded to Star once, flashing him a forced smile before remembering that Sueno was still there. Blinking once, she turned back to the slightly younger boy and stood up, "I think we met but... I'm Brooke Sangloup. You're... Sss... Something?"

If only him and Pajaro were the same or even just slightly better. If his Skarmory was just half as loyal, half as willing, things, basically everything would be so much more simpler. But eh, only way was through training apparently but that sounded like it would need way too much effort but what was he gonna do.
Listening to Brooke then Star's snarl, Sueño let out a soft "heh". Turning to Brooke with his same sort of half smile, "Looks like Star knows his reasons. And yeah, we've met once before at the Poke Park, you helped me with my Skarmory a little and then after that I heard people talking about your last victory and so I decided to come see. It wasn't that memorable of an encounter but like you ran into or someone ran into you and such, that's one thing I remember. And my name is Sueño. My people just call me Suens or Dream though." he stated as he stood up also.
He was a little hurt that she didn't seem to remember him but they did only meet once and that was like awhile ago or something, she must have her reasons. She was like a celebrity, he couldn't expect her to remember his name just like that but still, it hurt a little though not enough to really affect him.
Though it wasn't going exactly as Sueño had planned in his mind, he was set on asking her for help on training his pokemon. However it just wasn't the right time yet, maybe later. Or was now a good time? Is any time good for her? No, I must ask her but what if she says no? Then it's no and it'll be over and done with and he'll have to find someone else but who else, she was only one who he knew, albeit only by name but she seemed really nice so far.
Unable to decide to ask her yet or not, Sueño remained silent about that part, if it came up in a conversation then he would ask if it, then... He would just come to it when he comes to it. Deciding beforehand was overrated anyways.

As Star was pet by both his trainer and the newcomer, he wagged his bushy tail and let out a small yip of contentment. Brooke smiled once more down at her canine friend before staring back up at Seuno. Ah, that was right... the incident in the park.... "Ah yeah. It was me that ran into that other girl. I'm always tripping over things these days. It's a little weird, actually. Usually I'm a little more graceful.... You were the guy with the Skaramory though, weren't you? The one that seemed to not want to listen?"
Brooke leaned back against a wall after that, slumping down so she was sitting on the floor. After her little performance, she was a bit tired. So much adrenaline had been coursing through her veins, and she was finally starting to cool off now, "Have things gone better between you two since then? Or are you still struggling?"
The female trainer closed her eyes after that, lifting her head towards the ceiling where florescent light flooded down onto her face. It wasn't the sun, she knew, but she liked to pretend it was sometimes. It helped her unwind in a way. Of course though, when Seuno didn't respond right away, she opened one eye, suspiciously looking him over. What was he doing just standing there and staring at her? It was slightly unnerving actually.
"Did you suddenly go mute?" she spat out rather rudely, though it was unintentional. Still, Brooke had way too much pride to mutter an apology, especially for someone she had only just met. Sueno seemed nice enough, sure, but Brooke was a skeptic. This guy probably only was talking to her for battle tips... or something like that.
